Please join me in congratulating Dana Habeeb, assistant professor of informatics in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, on receiving an award of more than $310,000 from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) for her ongoing work to help Indiana communities strengthen resilience to extreme heat.
Dana, whose research focuses on environmental planning and health, is the principal investigator for the Beat the Heat program—a collaboration between the Luddy School, the Environmental Resilience Institute, and OCRA. Launched in 2021, the program helps Indiana cities and towns prepare for, respond to, and reduce health risks associated with extreme heat, and it recently began recruiting communities to participate in its second round.
A recent story about the award details how Dana’s team will employ data analysis and capacity building as they partner with local stakeholders to “conduct a Community Needs Assessment, co-create targeted, evidence-driven strategies, and design heat-specific tools that support long-term resilience.”
