Attending orientation
Our orientation experience is designed to help your student start strong—academically, socially, and personally.
- Make your reservation: Students select orientation dates based on their academic area and individual needs. Once the reservation is finalized, the Orientation Confirmation page will provide specific arrival instructions, preparation steps, and lodging details.
- Parent/supporter guest access: After your student completes their reservation, they can grant you guest access in the Orientation Portal. This allows you to view schedules and receive important updates directly.
- In-person: We encourage students to bring only one or two supporters due to limited space. Please wait until your student’s reservation is confirmed before making travel plans.
- What to expect: View the Foundations of Orientation program schedules to see what your student—and you, if you’re attending—can expect.
What if I can’t attend?
Don’t worry—many family members are unable to join the live sessions. You can still stay fully informed by exploring the New Student Orientation Resource Center. This hub highlights the key IU services and tools that will support your student throughout their first year, ensuring you have the information you need to be a great resource from home.
International students and families
In addition to the resources found here, we encourage you to visit the Office of International Services (OIS). There, you will find specialized guidance for families of international students on visas, travel, and the unique next steps for students joining our global community from abroad.
