New students have a lot to keep track of—and we’re here to help. The Orientation Roadmap is your personalized checklist in the Orientation Portal, helping you stay organized as you prepare for your first year at Indiana University.

Roadmap items may relate to different parts of the four steps of your orientation experience and will not always appear in the exact order you complete them—so think of it as a guide and checklist, not a strict timeline.

Get started

Prepare for academic advising

  • CrimsonCard
    Set up your official IU ID, your CrimsonCard. 
  • Accessible Education Services
    Request accommodations through Accessible Education Services.
  • Credit Transfer Service
    Learn how your credits from other institutions will transfer to IU with the Credit Transfer Service.
  • Third-party access
    Set up third-party access for your family members or supporters.
  • Student Center
    Access the Student Center to confirm contact information for yourself and your supporters, as well as to check out your class information after your advising appointment.  
  • Text reminders
    Sign up for text reminders from IU to receive updates about campus life, class registration, financial aid, and more.
  • Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE)
    Complete the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) to provide IU Bloomington with information to improve curriculum and student life. You will receive a link to the survey through your Orientation Portal.
  • Transportation registration
    If you plan to park on campus, you must register your vehicle, motorcycle, or bicycle and properly display a valid parking permit. Keep in mind that campus is both biking and walking friendly and parking for cars is extremely limited. 

Attend Foundations of Orientation

  • Direct deposit
    Set up direct deposit to receive financial aid refunds as appropriate.
  • Financial aid
    Accept, reduce, or decline financial aid.
  • Federal Direct Loan borrower
    If you're a first-time Federal Direct Loan borrower at IU, you'll need to go through entrance counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) after your loan is accepted.
  • Title IV authorization
    Sign your Title IV authorization so your federal aid can apply to all charges on your bill.
  • Eduroam Wi-Fi network
    While on campus, connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network on your computer and mobile devices—it is the secure network at IU. Use your IU email address and passphrase to connect. 
  • IU Mobile app
    Download the IU Mobile app to access IU information on the go, including Hoosier Welcome schedule info, support services, and tools students need. 
  • Prevention education
    All first-year, transfer, and incoming international undergraduate students—regardless of age or experience—are required to complete a series of prevention education online courses provided by Vector Solutions before the end of their first semester.

Begin your first year as a Hoosier

  • Move-in guide
    Explore the residence hall move-in guide and check your IU email for housing updates if you are living on campus.
  • Immunization requirements
    Review immunization requirements, and submit requested documentation. For immunization information, contact the IU Student Health Center.
  • Meal plan
    Familiarize yourself with your meal plan to know about meal scans, combo meals, and dining dollars.
  • Emergency notification settings
    Keep your emergency notification settings current to receive IU-Notify immediate danger alerts.
  • Hoosier Welcome events
    Attend Hoosier Welcome events, explore campus, and enjoy your experience as a Hoosier!
