Find your fit as a student staff member with the Office of Orientation & Enrollment Programs. We offer several student staff positions to support new Hoosiers and their families through welcome programs, student communication, and event operations.
Gain skills in:

- In-depth knowledge of IU resources and services
All positions offer the chance to make a real impact on new students—while building connections and memories along the way.
Connecting with students has helped me better understand how I can support others. I’ve loved learning more about the students I mentor and getting them involved in what they’re passionate about, whether it’s classes, workshops, internships, Greek life, or clubs.
Becoming an Orientation Leader has made me feel more confident in myself, my abilities to lead, and my public speaking. It isn’t just about the skills gained but also the experiences with the people, too!
Orientation Leaders (OLs)
OLs welcome new students and supporters, help guide them through orientation programs, and create a supportive, high-energy environment that helps students feel confident about their start at IU Bloomington.
Team Leaders (TLs)
TLs are former OLs who play a key role in keeping programs running smoothly while helping set the tone for the student experience. TLs serve as mentors to the Orientation Leaders while bringing enthusiasm, professionalism, and knowledge to the orientation program.
Office Assistants (OAs)
OAs support new students and families even before orientation. OAs answer phones, emails, and assist in program planning and logistics.
Orientation & Event Organizers (OEOs)
As part of the Enrollment Programs team, OEOs help to manage essential logistics and support the smooth execution of student-facing events, supporting admissions, orientation, and scholarship related programming.
Orientation Leaders shape the IU experience for incoming Hoosiers while having the summer of a lifetime
Orientation Leaders (OLs) are paid summer staff who help welcome incoming Hoosiers to IU Bloomington by sharing campus resources, opportunities, traditions, and culture during New Student Orientation. As part of the Orientation Team (OTeam), OLs build leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and facilitation skills while mentoring and supporting students during their first IU experience.

OTeam has given me valuable skills that will prepare me for my career. From interpersonal skills to the ability to lead a room, the OTeam has helped me grow and supported me every step of the way.
Being on OTeam has given me the opportunity to help ease students’ nerves about coming to campus. Hearing their stories about campus experiences and how I’ve helped them is so rewarding.
Orientation Leader responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming campus experience for students and their families including leading a small group for incoming students.
- Facilitate various discussions, presentations, and activities for new students and guests.
- Introduce and educate students to the resources and opportunities available at Indiana University.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the OTeam and actively participate in all OTeam retreats, training sessions, and reflection activities.
Orientation Leader compensation
- Hourly pay rate of $12.50/hour
- University housing during summer orientation and OL training (approximate $1700 value)
- Orientation apparel with the CrimsonCard
- Meal plan will be provided throughout OTeam training and the orientation summer program
- Possible internship credit available depending on major/program of study
Orientation Leader time commitment
- Enrollment in EDUC-U495 course: Fridays 10:20 a.m.–12:20 p.m. (Second 8-weeks, spring 2026)
- May 16–July 24: Summer Training and Orientation
- August 10–25: August hours contingent on final orientation programs, Welcome Week support and personal availability. Anticipated dates: 4–5 weekdays between August 10 and August 21
Orientation Leader requirements
- Completed at least two (2) semesters as a freshman or one (1) semester as a transfer student at IU Bloomington prior to employment period
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 and be in good disciplinary and academic standing
- Successfully complete EDUC-U495: Peer Mentoring & Leadership in Orientation
- Additional employment/internship or enrollment in any summer classes is only permitted with Orientation Director permission
Bonding with students and having the pleasure of leading them is an experience I’ll forever keep in my heart. The students are always what makes the summer worth it.
Through OTeam, I found not only a welcoming community and meaningful connections, but also a support system that helped me feel at home and confident in my journey as an Indiana Hoosier.
