Critical foreign language study prepares an IU student for a career in diplomatic research

Erlan Benedis-Grab is a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship Scholar, advancing his skills in Kazakh, a less commonly taught language considered of critical interest to the U.S. At IU, he combines his studies with interdisciplinary research, aspiring to a career in diplomacy and economic research.

He also had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., for an internship and to participate in the Hamilton Lugar School D.C. Global Leadership Forum, where he connected with high-profile professionals and gained valuable insights that align with his career goals.

IU prepares students like Erlan to become globally-minded to transcend borders and make connections in any language.
