Who are IU Student Ambassadors, and what do they do?
IU Student Ambassadors are trained student leaders who serve as the welcoming face of Indiana University Bloomington. Student Ambassadors represent IU to prospective students and families through tours, events, and personalized interactions, helping guests understand the IU student experience, from the strength of the academic programs to the engaging campus culture, empowering them to envision themselves as future Hoosiers.
Ambassadors play a key role in:
- Leading 75-minute campus tours for prospective students and their families
- Supporting large-scale events, including Red Carpet Days, welcoming newly admitted students to campus
- Participating in panels alongside IU faculty and staff, sharing authentic perspectives on the student experience
- Presenting personal academic and extracurricular experiences to help visitors envision what life is like at Indiana University
- Staffing a sample residence hall room, answering questions about housing options and residential life
- Providing accurate, up-to-date information on academics, housing, dining, safety, and student life at IU
- Upholding Indiana University’s values by fostering inclusive, respectful, and welcoming interactions with all visitors

IU Student Ambassadors gain professional experience and valuable skills, including:
- Public speaking confidence through leading campus tours and presentations

Want to become an IU Student Ambassador?
Applications for IU Student Ambassadors open in mid- to late September each year. Interviews are typically held in late October and early November, with training beginning in January each year. Check back in September for more information about applying.

Whether you’re considering IU for college or adjusting to campus life as a new student, IU Student Ambassadors are ready to share their experiences, offer honest insight, and help you build confidence and find belonging at IU Bloomington.
International Student Ambassadors
International Student Ambassadors are current international students who can share what their journey has been like and help you understand what to expect. They can answer questions about academics, campus life, and adjusting to the U.S.
Ambassadors from 20 different countries—representing different academic backgrounds—are available for one-on-one meetings via Zoom, connecting via email, or online chat.
These connections give you a direct line to people who’ve already taken the path you’re considering.
Being a Student Ambassador gives me the opportunity to talk about the community and experiences that have truly shaped me during my time in college. It is so gratifying to know that I am helping prospective students find a home here at IU, just like I have over the past four years.
