Philip Shushkov

Wednesday, November 12, 2025

Please join me in congratulating Philip Shushkov, assistant professor of chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences, on receiving a $700,000 National Science Foundation award for his project, “CAREER: Non-equilibrium Quantum Dynamics of Molecular Qubit Ensembles.”

Professor Shushkov, who received a five-year grant and is the sole principal investigator, will develop and apply theoretical methods to simulate the behavior of molecular systems and develop ways to use them for quantum information storage and processing. He is specifically interested in understanding how ordered assemblies of molecular spins can be used for ultra-sensitive measurements and for quantum communication.

He was also the recipient earlier this year of two highly competitive and prestigious early-career science honors for his work at the intersection of chemistry and quantum science—the U.S. National Science Foundation Early CAREER Award and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Early Career Research Program Award.

Congratulations, Professor Shushkov!
