Please join me in congratulating Jeremy Siek, professor of computer science in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, on receiving a $449,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to protect data privacy in software.
Jeremy’s research focuses on programming languages, systems and high-performance computing, and theoretical computer science. His project, entitled “Gradual Information Flow Control,” focuses on protecting data privacy by controlling how information flows within software—a concept known as Information Flow Control (IFC).
In a recent news story, he shares that this work will bridge the existing gap between theoretical concepts of IFC and their practical application in real-world scenarios and will make it easier for developers to build applications that protect sensitive information without sacrificing performance or programmer productivity.
