Adult students will follow either the freshman or transfer steps to enroll, depending on the process you followed when applying to IU Bloomington.

Your university ID number will be listed in your IU Portal. Use your university ID number to create your IU computing account, which you will use for other important tasks during your admission process, including direct admission review requests.

Log in to your IU Portal to confirm your intent to enroll, which includes completing the enrollment form and paying the enrollment deposit.

Each department has its own set of steps you will need to follow after you are admitted. Look for communications from your academic department or school for your specific enrollment steps.

Most undergraduates are required to live on campus their first year (with some exceptions). The housing contract and application are typically available in February for the upcoming fall semester. Learn more about the residency requirement and housing application process on the IU Housing website.

If you have more than 12 credit hours of transfer coursework, you can choose to live on or off campus. We recommend you live on campus during your first year, as it’s the best way to plug into a community of people and start making friends. If you want to live off-campus, you will need to apply for a residency exemption. The housing contract and application are typically available in February for the upcoming fall semester. All new students are required to attend orientation, which is where you will learn what is expected of you as an IU student and register for your first semester classes. You'll need to complete your intent to enroll before making a reservation for orientation. Invitations will begin sending in March or April. Make your reservation as soon as you receive your official invitation!

As an incoming international student, you need to provide the official academic records you provided to complete your application and final secondary school transcripts no later than four weeks after the beginning of your first semester.

Incoming transfer students are required to have final secondary school transcripts sent to the Office of International Services before beginning at IU. All documents must be official and original (no photocopies or notarized copies). English translations must be provided for all non-English language documents.

Indiana state law requires all new students to submit immunization data. Before your first day of classes, you must complete and submit the Online Immunization Compliance form, where you will be asked to provide dates and documentation of immunizations for specific diseases.

If you are currently studying in the U.S. as an F-1 student, you will need to transfer your SEVIS record to Indiana University.

If someone is helping you fund your college education, make it easy for them to do it. Let your parents or guardians—and whomever else you choose—set up e-bill notifications, pay bills electronically, and view bursar account details.
